To Wither is to be unappealing like a leaf with brown color, dry, shrinking, wrinkled, almost falling, ceasing to flourish, decaying, declining, damaged, inactive, failing to implement, stagnant due to lack of food and nutrient. The word of God is the nutrient for our lives, hearing it, looking at it, practicing it is key. Everywhere a withered leaf is mentioned in the scriptures, it’s the result of a disconnect and of evil deeds.
“The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever”. (Isaiah 49:6-8)
“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:24-25).
We must pray for understanding of the word and In-dwelling of the Spirit to practice. To wither away is to disconnect from the source, just like the plants that needed water, light, and other nutrients for living, our water, our light, and nutrients are in Christ Jesus through the word of God, see the scriptures below.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abides not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:4-7)
We are like plants, we are to remain fresh, we are to keep flourishing so that we can bear fruit in due seasons for the owner of the field and for the farmer, the Lord Jesus Christ is the farmer, He wants to feast and feed on our lives, as result, we must satisfy Him, but the question remains ” Are we satisfying God with your lives?” If not, we can begin now, we can start today, for now, is the appointed time. Is God deriving pleasure through your life, Is God happy with you or tired of you? Make a U-turn back to God today and it shall be well with you. As in the days of Noah, while he and his household found grace and favor, God regretted over other people.
“The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination and intention of all human thinking was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved at heart. So the Lord said, I will destroy, blot out, and wipe away mankind, whom I have created from the face of the ground-not only man, [but] the beasts and the creeping things and the birds of the air-for it grieves Me and makes Me regretful that I have made them, But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord.” (Gen. 6:5-8)
Same way, Jesus was not also happy when He got to the fig tree on His way to Jerusalem, He had so many expectations to get fruit to eat from it and He found none, he cursed the tree.
“In the morning, as he was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry and noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “Never bear fruit again!” And soon the fig tree withered up.” (Matt 21:18-19)
It is my prayer that we will not be disconnected from God, We will by His Grace and mercy receive Strength to abide in Him at all times, to bear fruits, make our God happy not bear leaves that may soon wither away, we will not be enticed away from God by the desires of flesh and attractions of the world, in Jesus Name. Amen!
